A team from the are undertaking a surveillance study to identify children who develop kidney failure (end-stage kidney disease) and for whom a decision is made in their best interests to manage their kidney condition conservatively.
Hosted by the and funded by , the study commenced in September 2020 and is running for two years. 美姬社区members are encouraged to report cases who meet the following three criteria:
- Have evidence of structural or functional kidney abnormalities which are expected to be long-term. The child (under 12-months) has developed kidney failure, defined as a persistent (at least 2 occasions) serum creatinine of >120 渭mol/L.
- A decision has been made not to pursue long-term kidney replacement therapies (dialysis, transplantation) and to instead manage the kidney condition conservatively.
- Children who receive a brief period (<90 days) of dialysis before a decision is made may also be included.
